Cross Upon The Hill

Down the road to Calvary
as he marched towards his fate.
He could scarce believe
the angry voices and the cry's of hate.
He searched the faces of the crowd
saw their laughing and their jeers.
He saw the ones who loved him
he saw it in their tears.
The cross on his shoulder
dug deep into his skin.
He stumbled once, and then twice,
then rose to his feet again.
The whip across his back
brought the pain anew.
The blood from his wounds
fell to the ground like dew.
The road began to steepen
as he neared the crest.
Soon his love for all
would be put to the final test.
The nails were hammered straight and deep
into his feet and hands.
The time had come his father cried
as the lamb fufilled his plan.
On that cross upon the hill
with eyes os full of love.
He breathed his last as a mortal man
then joined his father above.
